Jesus the Miracle Worker

Mark 6:2  “When the Sabbath came, He began to teach in the synagogue; and the many listeners were astonished, saying, “Where did this man get these things, and what is this wisdom given to Him, and such miracles as these performed by His hands?”

There are roughly 45 miracles of Jesus recorded in the Bible; Matthew records 29, Mark 23, Luke 23 and John 10. John 21:25 also tells us that “… there are also many other things which Jesus did, which if they were written in detail, I suppose that even the world itself would not contain the books that would be written.”   The miracles of Jesus include:

  1. physical healings; paralysis, blindness, deaf, mute, withered hands and feet, sickness of various sorts, etc.
  2. nature-related; calming the stormy sea, walking on water, water to wine, feeding 5,000 & 4,000
  3. exorcisms of demons;
  4. resurrections; Lazarus, widow’s son at Nain, Jairus’ daughter, Himself

Why did Jesus perform miracles?  Jesus performed many miracles which the gospel of John calls “signs.”  Miracles are signs that point to something greater and bigger than themselves.  Throughout Scripture God performed many miracles, signs and wonders to attest to His sovereign hand over all His creation.  Jesus was God walking on the face of the earth…how could He NOT exude miracles wherever He went?  Jesus miracles and wonders were signs pointing to His divine nature and authority!  Jesus life as eternal God who became flesh, 100% God and 100% man, IS a divine miracle to us human beings. His miracles are still evident today in the greatest way…changed lives of faith in the one and only Son of God!

REFLECT:  How has God created a miracle in your life?  Has your life truly changed as a result of your faith in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior?  Do you see with eyes of faith the supernatural power of Almighty God all around you?  Read Romans 1:19-21 and honor God and give Him thanks.

REPENT:  Change your ways. Ask God to give you believing eyes enabling you to see His glorious miracles; changed lives, His creation, the cross of Jesus, His resurrection, His ascension and the heavenly kingdom of God for His children. Ask him to forgive your doubts of His divine majesty and the miracle of the work of Christ.

RESTORE:   Believe and do not “naturalize” the miracles of Christ that point to Him as the Lamb of God.  Read Psalm 139 and rejoice that you are a child of Almighty God because of the blood of Jesus Christ!

Act 2:22-24  “Men of Israel, listen to these words: Jesus the Nazarene, a man attested to you by God with miracles and wonders and signs which God performed through Him in your midst, just as you yourselves know–this Man, delivered over by the predetermined plan and foreknowledge of God, you nailed to a cross by the hands of godless men and put Him to death.  “But God raised Him up again, putting an end to the agony of death, since it was impossible for Him to be held in its power.”
